My guest on The Expressive Mom Show is Tiombe Huggins, a self-care and fitness expert with a special focus on barre. She is the founder of Living on the Butter Side, a small business inspired by her personal journey of embracing femininity and stepping away from hustle culture.

This mindset shift led Tiombe to create a brand rooted in self-development, beginning with the foundation of self-care.

Her message is delivered through thoughtfully designed stationery products that encourage reflection and growth, including journals and notepads. Additionally, Tiombe is a certified Pure Barre instructor, teaching at several locations across New York.

In our conversation, Tiombe and I explore the importance of self-care, why it’s an essential practice, and how it should be viewed as a necessity rather than a luxury.

Self-Care: A Necessity, Not a Luxury

In our fast-paced world, self-care is often misunderstood as an indulgent treat reserved for rare occasions. Yet true self-care goes beyond pampering—it’s a vital practice for sustaining physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Just as we nourish our bodies with food and water, tending to our emotional and psychological health is equally essential. Without self-care, we face the risks of burnout, reduced productivity, and difficulty being fully present in our personal and professional lives.

Far from being selfish, self-care is a crucial act of self-preservation. Taking time to rest, reflect, and recharge equips us to handle life’s challenges with greater resilience and clarity.

Simple practices like journaling, movement, mindfulness, or taking intentional pauses strengthen our connection with ourselves and help us manage stress before it becomes overwhelming.

Treating self-care as a daily priority creates a foundation for living a more balanced, purposeful, and fulfilling life.
