Welcome to the pilot episode of The Expressive Mom Show! I’m your host, Miriam Rachel, and I am thrilled to be here with you today. In this episode, I want to introduce myself and give you a glimpse into what this show is about.

First, let me share a little bit about myself. I am a Canadian mother, author, wife, freelance writer, astrologer, psychic medium, and tarot reader. My journey has taken me through various experiences and roles, from SEO consultant to social media manager. But my passion for writing and connecting with others has always remained at the core of who I am.

While my professional background is diverse, my personal experiences have shaped me the most. Like many, I have faced struggles with trauma and depression. I discuss them in other spaces and will discuss more as time passes on this podcast. However, I focus on the lessons I’ve learned and how they have influenced my journey as a mother and a woman.

Education-wise, I hold a diploma in business from Seneca College in Toronto, Canada. I am also a certified astrologer, having earned my certification in 2006 under the guidance of Samuel F. Reynolds. Additionally, I am a self-taught tarot reader, which has become a passion of mine and an avenue through which I can share insights and guidance with others. Now, more about Expressive Mom.

Expressive Mom is a blog I’ve had since 2014. It covers lifestyle topics ranging from parenting to DIY projects, finances, home improvements, dogs, nutrition, and more. It’s a place to share my thoughts and experiences on various aspects of life. With this podcast, I aim to bring those topics to life, incorporating discussions on mental health and self-care. I plan to discuss that often with future guests.

You may wonder what motivated me to launch this podcast. On December 1st, 2023, I launched The Tarot Table, a podcast dedicated to tarot and raw spirituality, including mental health-related topics. The positive response and the joy I experienced from hosting that show inspired me to resurrect The Expressive Mom Show. Yes, I did have the Expressive Mom Show around a decade ago.

However, I needed to put an end to it at the time as I was dealing with a horrific situation that was putting a considerable strain on my mental and physical health. I talk a lot about what happened in other spaces and will dedicate an episode to it soon here, but I will not elaborate on it during the pilot. All I can tell you is that it led me to my breaking point, which got me out of my echoism—this time. I’m embracing the opportunity to speak and use my voice, as I’ve come a long way from being an echoist.

For those who may not be familiar with the term, an echoist is someone who struggles to assert themselves, often putting others’ needs before their own. It is pathological people-pleasing, as it is on the opposite end of pathological narcissism. However, echoism is not a diagnosable condition. It is just a colossal characteristic.

However, after reaching my breaking point, I realized the importance of finding my voice and standing up for myself. I wrote a book last year and published it in November. It was called Overcoming Echoism with Tarot: Using Tarot for Boundary Setting and Stopping People-Pleasing. It is about using tarot for self-reflection to learn why you may struggle with extreme people-pleasing. This show will reflect that journey as I share my thoughts, insights, and opinions on various topics.
