If you live in Raleigh, North Carolina or Richmond Virginia, and you or your child is in need of braces, then you will want to listen up. You know that in order to have the best orthodontic experience that you must only go to the highest regarded orthodontists in town.

That is why you will want to only go to Gladwell Orthodontics in Raleigh, or RV Orthodontics which stands for Richmond Virginia Orthodontics in Richmond. These offices are owned by the same elite orthodontist, Dr. Jason Gladwell. Dr. Gladwell and his team in both locations will make sure that you or your child receive the best orthodontic care if either of you needs braces.

That will involve taking X-rays of the mouth and performing an examination of the mouth thoroughly to determine the best treatment plan that is customizable to you or your child. Some patients choose to go down the traditional path by opting for metal braces or go for the clear aligners, Invisalign®.

That will also depend as well on the best course of treatment that Dr. Gladwell feels is best. That will depend on the age of the patient, as well as the state that the teeth and gums are in. He will also provide step-by-step instructions on how to take the best care of your braces so that the treatment is the most effective. This way, you or your child will be on the way sooner rather than later of showing off that gorgeous smile!

However, if you or your child needs braces and you live in either city (or if you are in a different area all together but stumbled on this blog post and need to know what life looks like with braces), you will want to start reading up on what foods to avoid when you do have braces.

  • Anything that is chewy such as licorice, bagels, gummy candies, Starbursts, Laffy Taffy, and Fruit Roll-ups.
  • Foods that are crunchy such as popcorn, croutons, granola, ice, and potato chips.
  • Anything that is sticky such as chewing gum and anything with caramel. Especially the caramel candies, as well as foods that are hard such as nuts and hard candies.

You also will need to avoid eating foods that need to be bitten into unless they are cut up. For instance, you can still enjoy corn but you need to have the pieces removed instead of biting into a cob. You can also enjoy apples, but you will need to slice the apples up instead of biting into a whole apple.

All other foods are fine to eat with braces. And, this may sound disappointing since you have to give up your favorite foods but just remember – this is a temporary sacrifice. The good news is that time moves along pretty fast. That means you will be able to eat your beloved foods again such as popcorn or gummy bears and enjoy showing off that gorgeous smile!

And, don’t worry. Dr. Gladwell will make sure that you or your child has the best orthodontic experience so you can reap all of the benefits of having perfectly straight teeth – and once again, showing off that wonderful smile!
