As mothers, we all deserve a break. I, personally, love watching movies to relax and unwind. If you like scary or thrilling movies, then it’s important to stay up-to-date on what is on the horizon. And after the films US and Pet Cemetery, now we all want more!

This is a list of all the films coming out this year that will send shivers down your spine (or leave you laughing) depending on your personality.  So, grab some popcorn, a blanket and get watching. You could even turn it into a romantic date.

IT chapter 2

Stephen King is doing very well for himself, considering he has 3 films coming out this year. As a writer, I’m a little jealous. Bill Skarsgard will be to be returning as the shapeshifting clown Pennywise, but this time he has evolved to tormenting adults. The Losers Club is all grown up, and the cast features incredibly talented actors such as James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Hader, and this will also be Hader’s first horror film.

IT chapter 2 releases in cinemas, 5th September 2019.

Brightburn

I’m very excited about this. The cool thing is, is that I only heard about this film a couple of months ago, usually I hear about a film way too early, and I have an agonizing and seemingly endless wait. Telling the very popular story of Superman in a slightly different way. And using the very effective scary movie tactic, creepy children.

Brightburn releases in Cinemas, 23rd May 2019

In the tall grass

Stephen strikes again. And this is the only film, whose film synopsis gave me the shivers. Wanna hear what it’s about? Ok. Brother and sister on a road trip, then they hear a child calling for help in the TALL grass, (hence the name). The film is based on the novella, which I haven’t read. And now might have to.

In the tall grass releases on Netflix, in 2019.

Midsommar

Will Poulter is in this, and I love him very much. Not only is her a superbly talented young man, but he’s also an absolute sweetheart. So, he’s in this, and I believe it’s going to be awesome. The film has been described as the Wizard of Oz for perverts. And I love The Wizard of Oz, and to be honest I’m not, not a pervert.

Midsommar releases in Cinemas, 3rd July 2019.

The Lighthouse

Not much is known about this film, except that it stars William Defoe. And the director also made the 2015 film The Witch. Which did very well, considering it was one of his first films. The film is also going to be shot in Black and white, which will be a treat since we rarely see that nowadays.

Lighthouse releases in cinemas in 2019.

I hope that this list has whetted your appetite for 2019. One thing I will note, Horror movies are notoriously known for their cheesy dialogue or just plain bad acting. These films feature actors that are known for their talent. And hopefully the terror they display on the screen will spread to us. To all mothers who love scary movies, happy viewing!
